On The Knicks
I know, I shouldn’t bother, but this is my personal venting space. The Rangers are as good as they’ve been in a long time and the Giants, well, if I posted every week on this crazy ride they’ve been on, I’d write a lot of incoherent, screaming, excited gibberish, which you will probably get if they happen to win a week from today.
Anyway, last thing I’ll say about...
List of well-meaning platitudes I find immensely...
Trying to set myself right and be optimistic and blah blah blah but there are some phrases and whatnot that irritate me when I hear or read them, mostly because I have to fight to urge to go “WELL NO BECAUSE I…”.
Damn you, damn you to hell New Year’s resolution.
But seriously, believe whatever works for you, people.

New Hampshire primary footnote:
From a Reuters update:
Perry is slightly ahead of prank candidate Vermin Supreme, who has 95 votes on the Democratic side. Supreme is promising better zombie preparedness, free ponies for all, and more funding for time-travel research. He came to a Ron Paul rally recently wearing a rubber boot on his head and multiple neckties.
Why was I not informed of the existence of this campaign? Just...

"Everything Happens For A Reason"
Trite nonsense.
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think it isn’t well-meaning. It certainly is. It just seems like the kind of thing people say after their lives have turned out how they wanted them to, to rationalize past bullshit. Have you ever heard somebody who’s heartbroken, broke, and otherwise not doing terribly well insisting to those around him that all of the bad...

My Fellowship Is Not Pretend.
Wizards of the Coast announced today that a new version of Dungeons and Dragons is in the works. My response to that is “meh”, as I haven’t the slightest idea what to expect of the next edition and it seems like a bit of a PR stunt/panic move as it’s come relatively soon after 4th edition. The news also inspired a typically fluffy “lifestyle” piece from the New...

Sunday Sports Breakdown
This Sunday got off to a rather inauspicious start. Having DVR’d the Manchester Derby, I awoke at 9 AM downstairs to the sounds of my dad yelling at the television about how shit the referee was. Over the past couple of years, I’ve gotten Dad to become a City fan, so much so that he makes it a point to try to watch a lot of the matches with me when he can and that he often gets angrier...

The High Road in 2012
I haven’t dated anyone for a calendar year now. I don’t mind saying that because I don’t think any judgement should come with that fact, but it’s still a bit jarring to write. I’m 26! I’m supposed to be in the middle of some 20-something love affair like all the people on TV and the movies are! Nope. Not me. I had a serious attempt at online dating in 2011,...

"Why are you so against Santorum?" →
This is an excellent takedown of Santorum.
I still think Mitt Romney is going to win the Republican nomination, and fairly convincingly. If a few thousand Iowans accomplished something this week it was probably putting Santorum next in line to crash. But really, this is the best we can do for a major party candidate in 2012?
Poor Jon Huntsman.

Some stuff about dating.
So as someone who’s trying to get “out there” again I have a lot of thoughts. Of course, a lot of them are about past failures. They’re obviously pretty damaging and I’m not a kid anymore so if that’s all you’ve got in the bank it’s hard enough to outrun them. I have to say, though, that the last time I went off the deep end and swore all this off it...
In case you're wondering, and you are not.
I posted the magenta hair pic because a bunch of people on Facebook suddenly commented on it. It’s four years old! That was weird.

Reader feedback time!
Gennady writes this about my musing on the phrase “I don’t blame you”:
I love pragmatics. If I get a phd, i may consider doing in pragmatics. How would that conversation have gone in greek? What would a greek person say in response?Would they understand or be confused or insulted?
I would probably say one of two different things in Greek to someone who was taking a...

Why do bros think being tall gets you chicks?
Been asked this twice now at work in the past few months and, in case you were wondering, no, no it does not. Unless by “chicks” you mean “women with some weird fascination with your size who lead you on for a short period of time before deciding the whole thing was emotionally bankrupt and they didn’t have as much interest as they thought.” Definitely cool...

"I don't blame you."
You ever think about what a silly response this is to anything?
A friend was telling me yesterday she was going on vacation because she was stressed. My reflexive response to that was to say “I don’t blame you!”. And then I thought about it and how stupid that sounded.
Saying “I don’t blame you” implies that the person did something you would normally blame...

Irony
Whining months ago about Manchester City’s money after spending 35 million pounds on Andy Carroll (too bad he isn’t the “best player” John Henry was talking about or those naming rights for Anfield would look pretty good), then watching your baseball team tank in September and allow a team with a fraction of its financial resources to get into the playoffs, and then in...

Re-reading my other, private blog.
I have a private blog on tumblr that I used to write in sporadically the past 2-3 years when I was feeling particularly “moody”, although I haven’t really posted anything in a year. And looking back some of the crap I wrote, oh my God. Thankfully I spared everyone else from reading that.
Sad Tino is just fucking awful. I’m sorry everyone.

Developing: Fire Breaks Out in Earth and Space... →
thinkmag:
A source with the University Police Department has confirmed that a fire broke out in the Earth and Space Sciences building late Monday night.
I hope this isn’t anything serious. However, this reminded me of freshman year at Stony Brook, when I used to go up to the roof of ESS for a project for my Introduction to Astronomy class where we had to chart the position of the moon...

Kinda over this, for now.
Not for nothing but it seems like the only way to get a reaction or followers or feedback is to be a total caricature, post shirtless pictures of yourself or just repost the same internet memes over and over again. The few times I’ve tried to be a real human being here have resulted in silence (a trend, I think).
Combine that with the fact the site isn’t exactly the most reliable and...

I'm feeling pretty adventurous today so go to datelink5(dot)com (switch [dot] with .) then sign up and find my profile under the username 'lolsummer69'. I hid my face in the pictures. but I want you to guess who I am and then hit me up on Facebook lol. Good luck.

I'm enjoying the Mets.
Off the field stuff aside, of course, it’s been fun. This comes with the caveat that it could be destroyed at any moment if Fred Wilpon decides he doesn’t want to pay what it takes to keep Jose Reyes, whose play this year has been a joy to witness, but if you can keep that perpetual buzzkill out of mind long enough (which is difficult), there’s a pretty enjoyable group out there...

Bob Bradley
US Soccer is continuing to get the mediocrity it deserves by sticking with Bradley and insisting on going back to the well with low-profile NCAA coaches. The script is tired now for the US Men’s National Team: come out completely flat, get overrun for a half hour, start to get into the game, finally make a change, and scramble for a result against inferior competition. The match against...
